Metadata: Access denied when tagging document with newly created term

Hi!

I have created a new term in my Sharepoint 2010 Managed Metadata service, but when I try to tag a document with this new term I get an error message saying "Access denied". Account used is farm admin as well as term store admin.

The weird thing is that I am able to tag documents with other terms that were created a few weeks ago. I've checked that All authenticated users have access to the hidden taxonomy list.

It also seems to be a problem isolated to a single web app because other web apps using the same term store is able to tag documents - using the same term that's triggering the access denied message.

What could be causing this problem?

Interesting.  Can you provide a screen shot?

See attached screenshots.
1. I check out a document to edit properties
2. I select the correct metadata (created last week). I am able to browse to the correct term - everything seems to work just fine until I hit "Save".
Metadata 1
Metadata 2
Again - no error If I select a different term that was created a couple of months ago.

If you look at the property of that term, in the MetaData store, is it available for tagging?

Yes, when open the  Term Store Management Tool all the terms are marked as "Available for tagging".

I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the web app since other web apps can tag documents from the same metadata service.

i thought you said it was just one particular term that was having issues.  is this still accurate?

We experience this problem with all the new terms we create. If a user tags a document with a tag that was created a couple of months or weeks ago there are no problems.

Again, just a problem from one web app. Other web apps can tag documents using ALL terms (both newly created and old).

Are there any logfiles that could indicate the cause of this "Access denied" message?

I just noticed that on the same web app (multiple site collections) we get "Access denied" when trying to access "content and structure" and "content and structure logs" from "Site Settings".

Could this be related to the taxonomy problem?

I changed the diagnostic logging to verbose and found the following lines which may have something to with this?

It turned out to be the service account of the web application - it was set to Network Service instead of domain\serviceaccount. Once I changed it to the correct service account everything works again.

Thank you for your suggestions!
