How can I export a list of shares for an Active Directory group

Hello,

I am in the process of fixing the active directory group structure for my new employer but I have run into a big mess. Is there anyway to export a csv list of the network shares that are used by a specific AD group? I have been looking for a few days now without any luck. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Not really. Users/groups are assigned permissions to shares, not shares assigned to users or groups.

You can export a list of shares & share permissions on a given Windows box, but you'd need to do that for each server on the network & then correlate the results. It gets FAR worse if they control access via NTFS permissions rather than share permissions (administratively it is easier to manage & more secure to just use NTFS permissions though).

If you want to have consolidated report it's not easy using built-in tools and features especially if you have multiple file servers and hundreds of groups or users.

You can have a look into 3rd party tools which allow you to collect all details from the servers and report them the way you want to see it.
example of this type of software to report permissions in AD is Enterprise Security Reporter from ScriptLogic:
http://www.scriptlogic.com/products/enterprisesecurityreporter/windows/features.asp

I guess 30-days trial of that software can help you to see all features and decide if this tool is worth purchasing or you got your information after trial period and that's it.
