Visio 2010 - Dimension Object

I have a imported cad floor plan for our campus.  I am drawing the new fiber paths on the plan using the built in optical fiber shape.  When i place the fiber line on the print and i click on it I can see the length in the bottom right as it is calculated based on the scale of the drawing.  It is the correct length and all seems well until I try to figure out how to get the calculated length to print on the print automatically.  I know that I can add a text box and manually type the shown length but each time I add or change something I do not want to have to redo the labels.  Since it knows the length I should be able to label this line automatically.

    Accepted Solution

You can insert a field that shows the length of the shape.

    1. Go to Insert > Field.
2, In the dialog, choose Custom formula.
    3. In the text box at the bottom, enter the formula: =FORMAT(Width,"0.00u")

The text of your shape should show the length of the shape, to two decimal places, with abbreviated units.
