SEO - Characters in title bar - Does it effect ranking

Hi Experts

Just wondering if full stops of colon's in a web sites title bar effect ranking at all.  Primarily google.

Example:   .::: My Website Title :::.

Unless there is a good reason, I would suggest not having the multiple colons in the title tag.  Google & Bing pay attention to the title tag, and it does affect ranking.

That being said, you will rank based more on page content, backlinks to your website,  the overall brand & reputation of your website (influenced by social media) and other factors.

In an ideal world, I would say that NOT having them would be better from an SEO viewpoint.

But it won't likely hurt too much if you feel like you have to have them, or if they've been there already for a long time.

Colons in your page title don't affect ranking as Google looks at the text and how it relates to your page content.  With that being said, SEO best practice is to have a page title of 70 characters or less (including spaces) and to optimize your keywords in your page title as close to the front of the title as possible.  In essence, putting in multiple symbols and characters take up character real estate in your page title, which you can use to optimize to the keyword of that page.
