SBS 2008 and Active Directory Restore

I have a SBS 2008 Server with and external drive. I used Backup Exec 2010 to backup System State and Exchange and Sharepoint.  I reinstalled the SBS 2008 and was trying to restore Active Directory but the SBS 2008 Recovery Wizard does not see the external drive????  What i am missing here??

That does not explain why SBS 2008 Windows Backup and Recovery does not recognize the external drive but I will try to install Backup Exec and see what happens.  Is the backup included in SBS 2008 a bare metal backup or just a file backup????
