Outlook 2007 allows greater than 2Gb PST files but they need to be in the new format (new with Outlook 2007). If you go to the Properties of the PST file (mailbox name, nominally OUTLOOK) and then select Advanced, you can try changing from Outlook Data File (97-2002) to just Outlook Data File. You might have to close Outlook and go to Control Panel and use the Mail icon in Control Panel to do this.

Changing the PST data file is a one way street and cannot be changed back so far as I know. ... Thinkpads_User

If you cannot change the file type (sometimes it can be an issue), you can back up your PST file, create a new PST file in the new format, and then import from the old PST. ... Thinkpads_Use
