How many users logged in/ logged off script

Without having to spend lots of money on a network monitoring program that will do this for me.. is it possible to do a good vbscript that would atleast provide me results of how many users are logging onto a internal network each day? I know I can go to each machine on the domain and look at the event logs (tedious though) but it would be nice to have something automated.
thanks in advance.

Yes, you can have a logon script that writes the username and timestamp to a log file on a network share.  you can also have it parse the log file to see if the user already logged in that day.
