sbs 2011 cals

I have sbs 2011 installed. I have an open license agreement for 10 extra cals but have no idea how to add them? I rang microsoft spent 40 minutes on to them passed through to two different departments and was told there is no activation. I queried as to how the server will know it has 10 extra cals. I got a long pause from the licensing team who said they are not technical they just know there is no activation. He indicated that the licensing was completely open and you could add as many machines as you have licenses for! I asked whats to stop me buying 5 cals and adding 100 machines! He said because I could get a microsoft audit!

Hopefully someone has more info on this Thanks!

Correct - SBS 2008 and 2011 do not require you to activate the CALs. It's done purely on trust (and having the appropriate paperwork)

Well, let's face it - there will be companies who don't bother, there will be companies who don't keep track of how many CALs they need/use, and there will be companies who do everything by the book...
