Why does my Dell Studio 1737 not power on?

I have a Dell Studio 1737 laptop that does not power on.  When I press the power button the led's flash from left to right then back again but then after a few seconds the laptop powers off.  I see no video on the laptop screen or an external monitor when connected.  I've switched RAM, HD, WiFi card all to no avail.  I'm guessing its the board.  Looking for concurrence or something else to try.  Thanks in advance.

Could be motherboard, could be power jack.   I've seen similar situation with bad power supply jack, where the laptop was not charging, so computer may  not have enough juice to boot.  Even with that being said, the jack is generally attached to the mother board.  I am still leaning to bad motherboard for any number of other reasons.

When the power cable is inserted the blue LED comes on.

OK, then not likely a power issue as connected directly to the motherboard.  I have encountered your described problem on several laptops over the years.  The most recent was a Dell laptop.  Fortunately, the laptop was still under warranty and the motherboard replacement was all that could be done to correct the problem.  It was not a problem with any removal components such as memory or wireless adapters.
