Which Windows 7 license is required to install under ESXi 4.0

Instead of using a physical pc for occasionnal Remote Desktop access for an external user, I would like to setup a VM running Windows 7 Pro on our existing ESXi 4.0 server for this task.

What kind of Windows 7 licence can I purchase and use ?
1) New OEM license : is it legal to use it for a VM ? Will activation work ?
2) Full Retail license ?
3) or other type of license required  ?

Full Retail.

Full Retail or Volume License. OEM Licenses MAY NOT be installed in a VM.
I think you need to check with microsoft ..call 18009365700.

MIght be VLK license.

however if you deploy clones, change hardware it will require re activation, just like a physical machine. volume will work as well kms or mak.

This technical paper will help you implement VMware’s VM encryption as well as implement Veeam encryption which together will achieve the nothing ever in the clear goal. If a bad guy steals VMs, backups or traffic they get nothing.
