Gmail: how see it in browser?

: I have a Google account. I can read/write gmail through Thunderbird on my Pc. But when I'm logged in to my google account in a browser, I don't know how to get to my gmail to write or read. All I see is a screen where I would set up a Gmail account.

(Gmail's forum does not seem to accept questions now!)

When you go to the URL below, are you able to login to your Google email (Gmail) account?

When you go to the URL below, are you able to login to your Google email (Gmail) account?  http://gmail.google.com/

At that address, when I log in, I get a page beginning "Welcome to Gmail
You're currently signed in to your xxx@xxxxxx.xxx Google Account." where "xxx@xxxxxx.xxx" is the address, not ending in "@gmail.com" that I have to use to access my Google account. And the page is in effect asking me to create a Gmail account (subsidiary to my Google account). But  already have a Gmail account with that same xxx@xxxxxx.xxx as login name.

Which browser are you using? If not Firefox, could we try that? I just tested what you said, that is, I logged into one of my Google hosted email accounts (not an @gmail.com email address) and then from another tab, logged into Gmail (using my @gmail.com email address) using the URL I posted earlier. Both sessions co-exist nicely.

If you are using Firefox, could we possibly try clearing the cache files and then restarting Firefox? Then let's log into Gmail and then your Google Account to see if this will allow both to co-exist for you.

Yes, Firefox.

Could we try this next?

Since you are using Firefox, could we possibly try clearing the cache files and then restarting Firefox? Then let's log into Gmail successfully first and then logout and close this tab. Open a new tab and then login to your Google Account. Then open a new tab and go back to the Gmail login. It should remember your login email address already (as the info is cached) and you should be able to login afterward accordingly.

The fault is partly mine & partly Google's, it seems:
(1) I was trying to use my general-purpose Google account user name to log in to my Gmail account. But my Gmail account has a different user name.

(2) The reason for (1) is that Google doesn't allow me to use my ...@gmail user name as my user name for log in to general-purpose Gmail account.

Unnecessarily contorted on Google's part, I think.
