vs2010 install

I am installing VS 2010 Premium on windows xp sp3.  The setup hangs after clicking NEXT button on the welcome screen.  I tried clearing out temp directories, installing service packs, removing and reinstalling all the frameworks and rebooting many times.  Any suggestions?

Does you computer have the minimum requirements in terms of hardware to run VS 2010?

Please take a look at this page to check what they are:

In addition to clearing the temp directories, try cleaning up your PC's registry (with CCleaner or another tool of your choice).

Also try removing Visual C++ 2005/2008 Redistributable and disabling your AntiVirus program before installing VS2010.

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

Any errors in the log, under the source Windows Installer?

I see the error (eventvwr):
Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Premium - ENU. Product Version: 10.0.30319. Product Language: 1033. Installation success or error status: 1603.

Then the next event stated:
Would be blocked by access protection rule  (rule is in warn-only mode) (Common Standard Protection:Prevent common programs from running files from the Temp folder).

I will contact network admin to see if he can help....  Anything else I could do?

"Common Standard Protection:Prevent common programs from running files from the Temp folder)."

Installers unpack to the TEMP directory, and if there is security preventing apps running from TEMP, that would explain why it is failing.....

Im sorry to say though, I have no idea where that message would have come from. What security suite id on the machine?

I would check with your admin to see if this policy can be undone for the time being.
