Cannot restore user profile share using Windows Backup on Server 2008 R2

I had a user deleted data from a folder on the server by accident and asked me to do a restore from backups.  We are using Windows Server Backup that comes with Server 2008R2.  When I attempt to do a restore I select the day and everything and when I go to the directory it does not show any data.  This folder is one that ONLY that user has access to and is the owner of.  If I navigate to other folders I can see those just fine.  What happened?  Does Windows Backup not backup files and folders that the Administrator does not have access to?

    Accepted Solution

Okay I found that it looks like I can restore the entire folder to a different location I just cannot expand that folder to go inside the directory in order to find the exact folders/files that were removed.  Means I have to restore a LOT of extra data.  Seems like a pretty BIG issue to me.  Thoughts? Comments?

It will be a permissions issue.  By default, the Administrator does not have access to User Profile data.  You will however have permissions to give yourself permissions to view etc.
You may have to restore to alternate location, give yourself the appropriate permissions and then re-instate the appropriate data.
