I need to install a lot of Windows 2008 server OS on Dell M610 servers.  What's the fastest way to do?   Map to local ISO on my laptop?  Map to DVD drive on my laptop?

Can I stick the USB drive and boot into it?  Other options?

in dos
DISKPART and hit enter.

LIST DISK and hit enter.

Once you enter the LIST DISK command, it will show the disk number of your USB drive. In the below image my USB drive disk no is Disk 1.

4. In this step you need to enter all the below commands one by one and hit enter. As these commands are self explanatory, you can easily guess what these commands do.

SELECT DISK 1 (Replace DISK 1 with your disk number)

CLEAN

CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

SELECT PARTITION 1

ACTIVE

FORMAT FS=NTFS

(Format process may take few seconds)
ASSIGN

EXIT

i use winrar to decompress the iso to the flash drive and then boot from it.  fastest way next to using WDS

I was also wondering if there is a way to run install into multiple blades from the same thumb drive or iso.

after the first restart you can pull out the usb drive.  or use multiple drives.  but if your looking on doign it on a farm.  use wds...wds uses multicast and the only limited factor in it...is the router/switches thoughput.  but this will put a heavy heavy load on the network

I got it.  It would be better if they would make a USB port on the enclosure chasis to mkae it accessible to every blade server.

Thank you!

also look into unattend install for windows server 2008.  so you can automate the install process.

if you choose not to use wds.  just put the file in the correct directory on the flash drive
