Cannot install new virtual Hard Disk - Hyper V 2008 Standard
Hi all,
since the latest updates (might be coincidence) but i can no longer use my Hyper V install.
I have removed the Hyper V Role, reinstalled it and i now get this message no matter what.
I was receiving a similar message before removing the role fully.
I have tried installing on in a different area on the hard drive to no avail.
The Server encountered an error while configuring hard disk on "New Virtual Machine"
Failed to add device "Microsoft Virtual Hard Disk"
Cannot open attachement "C:\HyperV\test server\new virtual machine.vhd, Error: The process cannot access the file because it is beiong used by another process."
cannot get information for attachment "c:\hyperv\test server\new virtual machine.vhd

it then more or less repeats the above errors.

Nope, that's not the problem.
I have managed to create a new virtual hard disk, but on creating a new virtual machine it walks through the wizard perfectly until you either chose to use the existing virtual disk at this point it fails with the process in use error, or if you chose new it fails with the same process is in use error.
Really annoying this.

Just attempted to edit the disk as a trial to see if i caould access it. error message below
