dont know if this is possible but one of our users said she used to have a folder in her outlook folders that was from 2007 and was wondering if it is saved somewhere in archives for restoring.
I know periodically outlook prompts users to save to archive folders but dont know if this is within pst file and maybe never gets deleted until user manually goes through the process of deleting archive folder.  Thanks and the version of outlook i believe is 2007.

    Hi, dankyle67.

Outlook archives to a PST file.  It does not delete or archive PST files themselves.  That would be up to the user and/or a backup system.  If the PST file was there and is now gone from Outlook, then it may just have been disconnected.  Click File > Data File Management and search for the file.  If you find it, then add ti back in.  If the file is gone, then either the user deleted it or some other process did.  Outlook does not do that.

so if the folder was  visible lets say last month and then is not there now, its possible it could be contained in another pst file as i know there are multiple pst files currently on our server where outlook accesses.  I know sometimes in the past they would get disconnected from the network and you know when outlook cant find correct pst file it doesnt like it so you have to point it back to correct one then restart outlook and usually works.  When this user says it was a folder from 2007, most likely they created the folder in that year and it has always been there all these years but now that she suddenly needs it she realizes its not there and so must be in another pst since they do not even know how to delete.  Hope this is the case so i will try and search for it.  thanks so far for the help

There's no such thing as nested PST files.  Folders within a PST can be nested, but not the file itself.  The folder could have been moved to another PST file though.

    Assisted Solution

The default location for PSTs to be stored is as follows:
    %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

If the user followed the default settings to archive her mails, it's likely that the PST will be located in that folder.
