RAID 10 can I hot add a disk?

I have a dell server with 5 disks , I wanted to set this up in server administrator as a raid 10 , I am going to be getting another disk drive soon , can I just add this to the raid 10 configuration with out moving the data and/or reformatting or recreating the virtual disk?

depends on your controller :-)
normally -with newer/better controllers this should be possible.
i think you want to use the additional space online, Correct?

u can't do a Raid 10 with 5 disks.  This raid is stripping with mirroring, so u need an even number of disks

Do it with 4, then extend the raid when u get your other disk

can not be done

appreciate the information. Unfortunately, with a multi-tier array such as a Raid -10, once it is created, no drives can be added to the array. I apologize but the array would have to be recreated to add additional 2 disks.

Do you really think 6 disks RAID10 does make sense ??? this are 3 disks "lost". Why not consider RAID6 (with 2 disks "lost") ?
This may be extended online.

No Dell controllers support expansion (reconfiguration) of RAID 10/50/60 arrays ... to or from those levels.  If you do want a RAID 10, you will need to backup, recreate, restore.
