CEICW won't run on SBS Server 2003 cause it doesn't know it is SBS Server 2003

Hi all-

I recently replaced a NIC on our SBS 2003 Server, including un-installing the previous NIC from Device manager.

The system is running OK, but a bit slugish.  I wanted to re-run CEICW to fix any underlying issues, when I got the following error message:

"The wizard can only be run on a Small Business Server computer"

A quick glance at the system properties shows:

"Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server Service Pack 2"

I'm not certain, but I am suspecting it has something to do with SP2 for SBS Server.

Any ideas?  Other than taking the server down and performing a repair install that is.

No personal experience with this error, but have you seen this?

You receive an error message when you try to run a Server Management wizard in Windows Small Business Server 2003

Found it from http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/Q_22705085.html, one of the top SBS guys here.

I would download the SBS BPA and run that on the server
Also post the results of running ipconfig /all on the server

Well the problem right now is that you have two nics in your server both on the same IP subnet
1. is at 192.168.168.5
2. is at 192.168.168.4

This is an unsupported configuration
If you are going to have two nics they must be in different subnets..one connecting to the LAN,....one connecting the internet connection

Chris,

In my understanding that is only true if I wanted to use the windows Firewall configuration, but that is disabled because my network sits behind a sonicwall and a pix box (which is still a little overkill).

I'll look into it either way, but the realty is the server does not have any issues at all running, and it was running a dual-port NIC before.

I didn't replace the nic because it failed, I needed the NIC that was in the existing system because it is listed on VMWare's HCL for ESXi 4.1U1, which I am preparing to deploy so I can drop from 6 physical servers to 1 or 2.

Domain controllers do not do well when they are multi -homed (multiple nics on the same subnet).  It can also cause DNS and DHCP.

And as I said, it is not a supported Microsoft configuration for SBS.   If the NIC manufacturer has teaming software, so that it's only seen as one nic..that will work although it has to be disabled anyway to run wizards

Otherwise disable the .5 nic and this will run even better
