Single user mode doesn't have networking.

You can use rescue mode and have nfs mount with it.

What kind of Linux is it?

There is no network support in single user mode.
You would have to start all network services by hand, which is in fact not very different from leaving single user mode.

If you are in single user mode, you can go to run level 3 by issuing command

init 3

This would start the networking services.

However, I presume that you have some reason for being in the single user mode.  That is why I have recommended you to use the rescue media and get nfs mounts.

I have already started network services and when I do showmount -e ipaddress, I can see the exported list, I'm getting I/O interrupt error.

Using RHEL5

farzanjCommented:
With RHEL, you can use rescue as follows.

Insert the rescue media and when it comes to the stage

boot:

You type

boot: linux rescue askmethod

Then the media would take some time, and will give you option to mount from the network. If you pass it the mount point and IP, it should mount for you.

I should be able to do it in command line too right?

farzanjCommented:
Yes, but it asks you at the beginning--much easier to do.

Keep in mind that single user mode and rescue modes and kind of handicapped modes and you cannot have a complete functionality of a running system.

Just try it and let me know if you have any problems.

When I look at the nfs sever side using  shwomount -a, it is showing as mounted.

shwmount -a

192.168.0.7:/server1

I have stopped and start nfs server, still getting them..

What do you get with "showmount -e servername" issued from the client?

0

farzanjCommented:
If you want to see the mount points, use -e

showmount -e

or for remote hosts

showmount -a <IP_ADDR>

mokkanAuthor Commented:
I used showmount -e found that nfs server is available to mount, but when I showmount -a on the nfs server, the connection is still avaialble before I mount. I don't know how to kill.

farzanjCommented:
If you want to kill a mount, you can use command

fuser -km /mount/point

I can kill mount point. When I try to mount I'm getitng nfs.mount input/output error.

What is your current runlevel

Issue command

runlevel
who -r

farzanjCommented:
Also issue this command

service portmap status

woolmilkporcCommented:
showmount -a is not reliable! I don't think that's the cause of your issue.

I'd rather think that your NIC drivers are not loaded correctly.

You need to have rpc.lockd and rpc.statd running. ps -ef | grep

There are components that have to run on the client?

Check ther server and see the exportfs and see whether the client is defined. The other possibility is a stale nfs lock record on the NFS server.

Why are you running in single user mode?  This is generally only for system maintenance.  Many services may not be started.

If, for some very strange reason you need to run in single user mode, take a look at the services started by mode 3 in /etc/rc3.d.  All of the links starting with S are started when going to mode 3.  NFS is started after a bunch of other services, some of which it depends on.
