Excess email spam solution?

I would like to know one thing.I am getting spam to my personal email account at my domain for the last 3 days.If I delete that mailbox ,say for a month or so and then reactivate will the spam rate stop.My email is not listed anywhere on the web even in advertisements or forms.

Will it work?I definitely need the email id back and for that I dont mind shutting it down for a month or so.I use Windows Live Mail as my hosting service.

At times I feel they are themselves encouraging spam, the reaon being that with Windows Live mail as hosting service I get around 25 spam mails per day.But when I temporarily shifted to another hosting provider for a day I got only a max of 5 mails,I tried this for two days and in both cases Windows Live Mail got more spam.

Will my technique work out?Since my thought is that if the email is deleted for a while, the spammers will keep getting a statement that the email is not working.

It may work for some but I would imagine not all as its just a blast basically.  Look at getting a Spam filter in front.  It's not that much mroe or I would imagine windows live has some iltering you can play with as well.

You can use a third party hosted anti spam solution like Google's postini:

Spam machines are robots that do not pay attention to your use of a mailbox. Put your email address and spam will return.

To control spam, you need good spam filtering. Most (not all) ISP and web email systems offer spam filtering for you to configure.

If you are a company, you need to put in your own spam control or use hosted email that provides spam control.

There really is not another way except solid spam filtering. ... Thinkpads_User

Postini is $12 a year per user may not be a bad investment.

A substantial amount of the spam emails are from hotmail ids.

And why is it that when I shifted to the other hosting provider it is comparitively less.

I agree with Postini, It is what I use, but like I said you may look to see what spam filterig is already available to you with the windows live hosted service.

and for Postini look to Excel Micro for better pricing.

You have to configure postini and you have to make sure your MX records are pointed to postini and postini points to your mail server.  No Spam filter is perfect as spammers try to get around them just like no AV catches everything.  You have to make changes to it as needed and it can require changed depending on what spam is floating about.

Windows Live Mail is using Microsoft SmartScreen but the problem is they let in many.

And I would like to know one thing, lets say I have a personal id at my domain. After deploying postini, will I still get spam in my bulk mail or it wont even come through?

Like I noted, spam robots just pour out the emails to wherever. Having your personal id at your own domain will not stop spam. ... Thinkpads_User

Spam should be stopped at Postini and you can double check the spam with Goodles interface if you need to

qbarrientos is incorrect.  Postini has different levels of settings which you have to set correctly.
It can be low medium or high an still allow them all to come through but flag them to go to a spam folder.  You can quarantine them or you can straight bounce them or black hole them.  It is all in how you configure the service and there is a ton of options that have to be fine tuned to your needs.  Buying the service through a 3rd party like I mentioned Excel Micro is they can help with some of the rules.
