How to backup file contents of mapped drive using Symantec backup exec?

This is using Symantec Backup exec 10. A new file server - windows 2008 r2 64bit is added but not joined to the domain due to some reason. Not backup agent is installed on this server as Backup exec 10 doesn't support.

In order to backup this file server, on the symantec backup server, I tried to map the shared folder of the file server as S: drive. After that, in Symantec backup, I select those files/folder of this mapped drive for backup. But, after that, no matter how I change, backup always failed. Pls see the error message:

Final error: 0xe000fe29 Authentication failed on connection to the server.Make sure that the user account has the appropriate permissions and that the password was typed correctly.
   Final error category: security error
   Please see link: v79-57344-65065

Any idea how to solve this problem?

You're not going to be able to back up a remote server by any methods. You need to update Symantec Backup Exec to a version that supports Windows 2008 64-bit R2 with a remote agent.

Alternatively, you could schedule a file copy to the server where BE10 is installed and back those files up locally.

Symantec backup exec is really bad in supporting mapped drive

The reason for this is you have to buy the software to perform backups of non-local servers. An agent is relatively cheap compared to purchasing two copies of Backup Exec.
