Office shut down when diffirent users open same file

I got problem in Office 2010 that user 1 open a file, it could be ppt or xlsx or word and working in it for a while, user 2 open the same file that user 1 who is currently working in it and user 2 could taking over user 1s file and keep working in that file, and user 1s office shut down suddently by surprise... before it should promp up a msg that inform user 2 that user 1 is currently working in that file, would you open a read-only copy... but not this case.
Anyone know why office behaive like this? And any fix for it?
