I learned JavaScript a long time back from a book I don't even remember, so can't comment on the books. However, one good online tutorial is http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/tutorials/javascript/. You may also want to check out the very comprehensive StackOverflow list of resources.
I use the following link as my reference to javascript. It provides complete reference:

Pick up a copy of JavaScript: The Good Parts, by Douglas Crockford, ISBN 978-0-596-51774-8. It distills the language into the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

JavaScript: The Definitive Guide - David Flanagan - ISBN-10: 0596805527     - very good
JavaScript: The Good Parts, by Douglas Crockford, ISBN 978-0-596-51774-8 - I agree, is excellent

Good luck

Would I lie?

And I, too, recommend Flanagan's book.

Then there is the

JavaScript Bible, by Danny Goodman and Michael Morrison, ISBN 0-7645-5743-2

a weighty tome at 3 lbs 10 oz, with it's companion volume

JavaScript Examples Bible, ISBN 0-7645-4855-7

weighing a svelte 1 lb 15 oz. Taken together, that's almost 5 lbs 9 oz of JavaScript goodness ;-).
