Certain shortcuts in start menu not showing icons.

Hello,

I've got a number of shortcuts in the start menu (in particular C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs), when viewing that folder all icons are displayed correctly, yet on the start menu some items just have the unknown file type shown. This only seems to occur for a few applications even removing and reapplying the shortcut doesn't appear to solve the issue.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Uni

I would try right clicking the shortcut in the start menu, going to properties and selecting "change icon" that would at the least let you know if the shortcut is pointing to the right image file or exe

Already done, although that wouldn't explain why the start menu isn't showing the icon.

Could be corrupted user profile...try creating a new user account...restart the computer and login under the new account...check how it works.

hi ded, this is a fresh install of Windows, but again there must be a root cause behind this.

All done, afraid no change at all, although what settings would cause this?

Safe mode did nothing but it seems clearing the icon cache sorts it out nicely.

Thanks all,
