Hi,

Well, Dell doesn't supply them, as you've found out probably This is going to be hard I believe. You could try and find drivers for each separate HW component like sound, network, video etc. Did you already start installing XP Home and are stuck already or are you planning to reinstall (and why btw).

Most of the hardware isn't supported by XP natively and Intel aren't likely to be producing drivers for an obsolete operating system for their brand new H57 chipset boards - so Dell don't have any drivers to offer.  It's unlikely you'll get everything working and - as XP has no native SATA support - even tracking down drive controller drivers is going to cause you a real headache! I'd go back to the first post here - why do you want to run XP on a machine that's supplied with Windows 7?  If you have an XP CD and license spare why not install VirtualPC and run XP within that (or install XP Mode which will give you Pro - depending on the version of W7 Dell supplied)?

Will the software run in a virtualised environment?

The 887's are OEM only and so there are no downloads available direct from the manufacturer.  The Dell downloads both support Windows versions from 2000-W7 including 64bit

v. 00   ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R245428.exe 58.5MB
v. 01   ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R297987.exe 106MB

I'd go for the first as the XP part of the installer is the same in both

How far have you got with the install of XP Home?

Commented:
To go in another direction, try installing Windows XP mode under Windiws 7. This will create a virtual machine, Instal the software in the VM. Then the software will show in the Windows 7 menu as a virtual app.

When you launch the app it will look like it's running normally, but it will be in a Windows XP wrapper.

Dell XPS Studio 8100 comes with Windows 7 Professional, so Windows XP mode is available. Download is here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

you can look up the unknown devices, and try to find drivers for it - but note that they may be inexistant, as said above

try this to identify the devices :

Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Information.
Now select  "Components" and highlight "Problem Devices".
All hardware devices with a driver problem will be listed here.
Make a note of the first line of the PNP Device ID line of the entry. It will show a Vendor number and a Device number (VENxxxxDEVxxxx) both four digits long.
Look up those numbers here:   http://www.pcidatabase.com/index.php

This will tell you the manufacturer and the chip number.
Check the manufacturer's website first or google them - or post them here

If your LAN is running, you can also use windows update, or drivereasy (free) :  www.drivereasy.com
it will list the drivers - you can google them, or let drivereasy do it

The user could just launch the XP software in Windows XP Seamless Mode of "XP Mode" and XP software will be just like a native application of Windows 7. For details, please visit page 8 in the PDF file from the link below.
