Hi

We are running a mixed Exchange 2003/2007 environment (both SP2). We have mailboxes on both platforms.

The Exchange 2003 RUS server is due to be decommed. I believe before we can uninstall Exchange from it, we need to move the RUS role to another server? But we can't move it to a 2007 box can we, because 2007 doesn't use RUS? So how do we get rid of it?

Hi,

When you moved all Mailboxes, Public folders, etc away from the Exchange 2003 server, you can delete RUS because exchange 2007 doesn't use RUS anymore.

You can delete the domain RUS via Exchange system manager, go to Recipients, Recipient Update Services and right click domain RUS and choose delete.
The Enterprise RUS must be deleted via Adsiedit, open adsiedit and go to Configuration, Services, Microsoft Exchange, organization name, Address Lists Container, Recipient Update Services and delete the enterprise RUS.

Ya thats correct in Exchange 2007 you will find Email address policies working instead of RUS
so no need to get panic you can get ur work done with the Email address policies.
