Memory card on phone error

Hi

I have an LG enV cellphone from VZW. I just received a Droid Pro that I'm dying to start using. However--my LG has pictures and videos I'd like to copy off of it. I've never used a memory card in it. I bought a 4gb card, inserted it, and proceeded to move my pics. I get a message that says:
"Exceeds available memory" each time I try to move a picture, any picture. I checked several of the pictures and they are very small in file size.

What do you think? Could it be that 4gb is too big for the phone?? And if it turns out that I cannot use a memory card, what do you think the fastest way would be to get the stuff off the phone??

Thanks

Let the phone format it.

aaron I tried that. I get "initializing" then "failed"

I found a manual online for the phone and it said supports 1gb storage. Does that mean that anything over one gb is too much for the phone to handle?? This seems strange to me.

I need to find some efficient way of moving these pictures/videos.

If I activate my new phone without getting pictures off my old phone, will I still be able to get to the pictures on my old phone, tho I don't have service on the old phone? Aren't the pictures stored on the phones memory and not VZW's servers?
