Optimal Version of Magento Store: 1.4 or 1.5

Hello,

experimenting with Magento (community edition) for a few months it appears to me like the newest version is not necessarily the best choice for everyone.

Many tutorials, templates/themes, docs and books are for 1.4. And the version 1.4 appears to be not completely comatible with the recent 1.5 version.

My question to the experienced users: what version of Magento would you prefer for setting up an entirely new shop?

When choosing an older version like 1.4, are there any security risks?

If you see the release notes of Magento, they have fixed many security issues as well.

I think you should go with the latest version so that new upgrades can be easy.
Templates/themes, docs and books will come for latest versions as well.
Q1: I would generally go with the newer releases b/c they do have added functionality. Ex: Bundled products can only be sold from the admin in the newer versions.

Q2: I don't see anything wrong with using an older version of magneto, but I would use the newest release from the version you want to use. EX: if you want to use version 1.4 go with 1.4.2 if you are using 1.5 then use 1.5.1. There is a major security flaw in version 1.5.0.1 so never use it.
Hi, i'm from Kiev. And my friend work magento developer in main magento office. He sayd that better use 1.5.1.0

I think it is not critical, and you can use tutorial of 1.4 for 1.5
