To reconfigure it invoke the following commmand /user/bin/vmware-config.pl .

what is the consequence of this on our current vmware setup with multiple vms etc.
i am afraid it will mess up the whole system?

Any change to a production system, there is always a risk. Ensure you have backups of the VMs.
This script will reset the configuration of the VMware Server. It's the same script that is used at installation.
Please note that VMware Server 2.0.2 is End of Life. It has been discontiued in favour of vSphere VMware Hypervisor (ESXi), also free. This Type 1 Hypervisor is superior to VMware Server. Extended Support runs until 30 June 2011 for VMware Server 2.0.2. If you intend to stay on this platform, I would download VMware Server 2.0.2 whilst it is still available.

it can sometimes happen with 2.0.1!
So you could perform an in-place upgrade to 2.0.2, or try re-running the script.
You should have VM backups.

We have made some progress. The VMWare WebAcces is running and we can see the VMs again. The problem was some missing kernel modules we think.
The only problem is that we cannot start a VM yet.
Vmware -status
shows that everything is running fine except for this message:
Host Network Detection is not runnning.
Any Ideas what this could be
