Does anyone know if there is a GPO setting to remove the 2x desktop icons from a windows 2008 terminal server?

You could use a GPO preference to remove the Libraries folder by removing the following registry key:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}


I assume that the second icon is the user's Personal folder?

yes its the users folder.

So can this not be doen via GPO?

not happy with registry, so left it as it was.
