1) Did you do any changes? Did you change drivers? Installed new hardware or antivirus last days?
2) Create a test account, do you have the same problems? If no, it is possible your user profile has been corrupted.

If the issue still persist try this one by one:
A) Run System File Checker tool

B) Do you have the problem in safe mode?

If the issue still persist .... Grrrrrr Let me know :-)
We will have to find which application is causing the problem.

Acronis in Gartner 2019 MQ for datacenter backup

It is an honor to be featured in Gartner 2019 Magic Quadrant for Datacenter Backup and Recovery Solutions. Gartner’s MQ sets a high standard and earning a place on their grid is a great affirmation that Acronis is delivering on our mission to protect all data, apps, and systems.

I think I have solved the problem. I checked the power settings in Control Panel  & changed the Asus Power4Gear power-plan to "Power4Gear high performance" from "Power4Gear quiet office" & the icons re-appeared. I tested this a couple of times, did a couple of restarts & it seems to be the fix. Not sure why though?
