I have a friend with an old 32-bit toshiba laptop with Windows XP Home Edition. She is going to wipe it clean and reinstall using the disk provided with the computer and then upgrade to Service Pack 3. She said that someone told her that Microsoft was no longer supporting Win XP SP 3 and that she wouldn't be able to update to that.

Afaict, that's not true:

Just want to confirm ... she should be able to get SP3, yes?

She should be able to download the Sp3 that is correct. As far as support .. they just dont offer help if it breaks something is more or less what it meant by no support.

Microsoft don't support pre-SP3 on Windows Update which is probably where she got that from.  Download and install SP3 and she's good to go until mid 2014.
