Does anyone have a best practices tips for configuring domain laptops running XP when the go off site. We have one application that works fine when laptop is on the domain but hangs when user is off site. It is a web based so it does not need domain resources. We noticed Userinit, userenv, etc.  errors in the event logs about domain controller, Active directory, logon script path, time server cannot be found. Is there a way to configure the laptop to work on and off the domain?

Really as log as you have Cache Credentials enabled the user can run the laptop off the domain.

Now the user is still not on the domain so you still won't have domain function which might be required for the application.

It sound to me that this application is an in house application(runs from company intranet and network)  if this is true then the only way the user could access this apps is via a VPN connection and making sure the proper proxy settings are set on the browser.

toroblanco2002 is spot on.  Using a VPN connection will allow this to run smoothly if the app is on an internal web server.  I've built plenty of these for my company and the only way they can access our Intranet is if they are on a VPN connection.

Hi anthonydi
You say "It is a web based so it does not need domain resources" so if it is *not* run by your domain server's IIS then where is it hosted? How does your user get access to the host server? Do they need and have the correct login credentials?
