I have an old SBS2003 Server that I am about to replace with SBS2011. I have several mail boxes that are over 5GB. I know exmerge will not work for anything over 2GB but was wondering if there was anything out there that i could use other than doing an export from the workstation?

Your best bet is to export from the workstation into pst files and break up the data into smaller that 2GB chunks.  Are you migrating to the new server or doing a complete replace with no migration steps?

I would love to migrate but there are too many thing wrong. I'm just going to start from scratch that way i know it's done correctly.

Hi,

You are not going to migrate? because with a migration you could just easily move mailboxes from the exchange 2003 server to the exchange 2010 server.

Otherwise you could use exmerge and set some filter option like a data range to create pst files smaller then 2GB otherwise you can use outlook (2003 or newer) to export to pst files.

For exchange 2010 SP1 you can use the mailboximportrequest cmdlet to import, read about configuration and permissions over here http://www.exchangeinbox.com/article.aspx?i=162

1. you already know ExMerge only supports the ANSI PST Format which has a 2GB limit and thats because it only supports ANSI PST files which  actually start to degrade at about 1.8GB so I would not go over that limit in order to ensure the data is recoverable.

2. Here is an article on how to script the creation of overflow PST's if you reach the 1.8/ 2GB limit http://theessentialexchange.com/blogs/michael/archive/2009/10/16/exporting-mailboxes-larger-than-2-gb-on-an-exchange-server.aspx

3. Alternatively, you can look at 3rd party tools that can do what you’re asking about and more, just put a search into Google for something like “Export or Recover Mailboxes from an Exchange Offline EDB or Live Production Exchange Server”
