Problem with Excel's Solver

I am trying to use solver to figure out what we need commissions to be in order to get to a specific profit margin.  I did the same EXACT task last month with no problems.  But now Solver can't find a solution for some reason.  Can someone tell me if they see anything wrong with the layout or criteria set for the attached solver problem? solverProb.xlsx

You need to seed an initial value - try putting 50,000 in the yellow cell, THEN run solver.

Works for me!

The answer is:  96818.5979797885

PS - sometimes solver needs a "helping hand" especially if the solution is a large number.  It can make iterations and flag itself out early thinking it can't find a solution if you don't help it sometimes...

You could also have change the solver criteria for the yellow cell to be > 1000 - also forces an internal starting point which also will work...

Dave

That worked, Dave.  Thanks.  BTW, my phone auto-corrected "Ashy"  I meant to put "aahhh.  Thanks, again.  I didn't know that little caveat.  Good to know.

lol - I thought "Ashy" was an idiom/expression and was wondering what country used that expression...

Glad I could help :)
