Deleting messages in Outlook Express

Recently, I am unable to delete messages in Outlook express. It doesn't work if I either click on the delete button or press on delete on my keyboard. If I open the message and click on delete, then it says:
The message could not be deleted
I am using Windows XP
Is there any way to solve this?

this is usually caused by a corrupted deleted items.dbx

Close OE and browse to the folder containing the dbx files (C:\Documents and Settings\user profile\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\microsoft\Outlook Express ) and rename or delete the deleted items.dbx

Open OE and you should have a new deleted items folder, you should now be able to delete messages

Thank you.
Renamed file - was over 2g.
Am now able to delete using delete button, but not using keyboard.
Any further suggestions?

You will need to check the size of your other folders aswell, the reason being is that once your dbx files reach large sizes the whole OE becomes corrupted and starts giving issues like you are experiencing.

I would suggest downloading a tool called OETool.exe found at
http://www.oehelp.com/OETool/Default.aspx

that will do a cleanup of all you cached files and do the neccesary repairs needed

Remarkably, even before download that, the delete button has started to work :)

Thanks.

Windows Live Mail

Windows Live Mail is the successor to Outlook Express, a discontinued email and news client bundled with several versions of Microsoft Windows, from Windows 98 to Windows Server 2003, and available for Windows 95 and Mac OS 9. In Windows Vista, Outlook Express was superseded by Windows Mail, then again by Windows Live Mail as separate software. Outlook Express is a different application from Microsoft Outlook. Beginning with Windows Vista Microsoft included Windows Mail, based on large parts of Outlook Express source code.
