Can u tell me what version of Firefox u r using?
Go to the installation directory of Firefox and check whether you have a directory named plugin.

if not, then create a directory named 'plugins'. if the firefox installed in different directory other than default location you have to copy-paste the plugin file manually to Firefox->plugins directory.
This will help you.

when you install mplayer, you have plugins directory in the installation directory. copy the quicktime plugin (npqtplugin) from it and paste it in firefox 'plugins' directory.

enter about:plugins in address bar and let me know how many plugins you have and weather it list out quick time plugin there.
Am not sure the correct plugin name..  it can be mplayerplug-in-qt.so. check it in mplayer installation directory.
