It is standard practice to install a server like that from scratch, consider things like mirroring your drives for redundancy in case the other drive fails.

If you are not worried about such then, try WinImage. This software will transfer your virtual machine to a Physical Server, not recommended though.

Although I concur it is best practice to build not just a DC, but any VM from scratch, sometimes it's not always practicle nor desireable. That being said, you can get vCenter Converter Standalone (free tool from VMware) & convert/move your VM. If you are referring to making your VM into a physical machine, there isn't anything really that 'converts' a VM to physical..you just need to build from scratch.

If you want to perform a V2P, I would recommend download and requesting a trial of Platespin MIgrate

http://www.novell.com/products/migrate/

The trial will allow you to migrate the server from V2P.

Be quicker/cleaner to build from scratch me thinks...especially being a DC...

Hi,

Then, as I can read here, the best way to do this,
1ºis run the VM.
2ºInstall windows 2003r2 or 2008 into the new server and run dcpromo and beyond
3º degrade vm domain controller

isnt it?

That's about it (but with a lot more steps in-between to make sure everything is doing what it needs to do and is doing it correctly)
After having created your new DC, and running DCPROMO.

follow this article to Decomission the other one correctly. (transfer roles before you turn it off or delete it!)

take your time and make sure you know exactly what you are doing and the steps you will be taking :)

before you start, run DCDIAG to make sure your domain does not have any errors.

after each step, run DCDIAG again to make sure you are remaining error free all the way through the process.

VMware, a software company founded in 1998, was one of the first commercially successful companies to offer x86 virtualization. The storage company EMC purchased VMware in 1994. Dell Technologies acquired EMC in 2016. VMware’s parent company is now Dell Technologies. VMware has many software products that run on desktops, Microsoft Windows, Linux, and macOS, which allows the virtualizing of the x86 architecture. Its enterprise software hypervisor for servers, VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi), is a bare-metal hypervisor that runs directly on the server hardware and does not require an additional underlying operating system.
