443 is the standard port for http over TLS/SSL (https).

Why would you use it for other purposes?

HI Rick_O_Shay:,

I am little bit confused as you said : Technically any port can be used for a given application as long both the client and server use the same port.

I would like to understand if web application(Http) is interacting with application server then is this fone to use port 443.

If yes, how can i check the url with port 443 is open

By default http servers listen to unencrypted communication on port 80, and encrypted on port 443.

If you have telnet you can try the ports with
#> telnet <ip> 443
or
#>telnet <ip> 80

Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is the set of networking protocols that define end-to-end connectivity specifying how data should be packeted, addressed, transmitted, routed and received at the destination. This functionality is organized into four abstraction layers which are used to sort all related protocols according to the scope of networking involved.
