outlook 2010

i updated someone at work to office 2010, and now he can't open .xnk files. i found that .xnk files are outlook 2003 files that were dragged and dropped to the desktop. he is still running winxp pro, and i tried creating a new file extension, but when outlook tries to open the file i get this error
"The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using."
i didn't use any switches when i made the new extension though.
any ideas?
