Two column HTML using CSS that has equal hieght columns

I am trying to create a html page using CSS that has a left navigation column that has the same height as the main content columns.  However, when I build the page the left navigation column (which has a different background coumn than the main content) does not extend the length of hte page.  How can I do this?

try setting the height to 100% which would be as tall as the page is and also in theory as tall as the main content.

Most of the time it is a mix of height and float properties.

If you could post a link or your HTML and CSS we could help you more efficiently.
