Add a second Active Directory Domain

We have a some labs that I need to be able to manage with policy but I don't want them to be in the same domain as our regular staff.

What is involved with adding a second domain to my "Forest".    I think I need to have a separate controller/server for this second domain.  Is this as simple as it seems?  Am I missing something?  Can anyone share a few "Gotcha's"?

Thanks

Creating a new domain tree is very easy nothing really anything you need to do special at all. Child domains are the same but they are part of the same tree as your primary domain but you will could be affected by some policies from the root domain.

So, I recommended creating a new domain tree with a new domain name.

The main reason for creating this second domain is security or insulation from the main staff domain.  Will a child domain provide this?

police will propagate to child domain , you need just to enable that on the child domain :

I would go with a second domain tree to make sure security is enchanced and flexibility on the student domain
