Problem with hyperlinks in Microsoft Access 2003.

Hey Experts,

I have a Microsoft Access table that has around 8000 records.  One of the columns is a column of hyperlinks linking to cad drawings on a network drive.  The issue is that when you click on some of the links, you get the message:

"Unable to open H:\ ..... .dwg.   Cannot open the specified file."

Most of the links are working and I clicked on about 100 of them and around 15 were broken.  I used the edit hyperlink option when you right click on it and chose the same file that it already had the path to, and after this the link worked fine.  The thing is that I do not know which of the links are broken, and moreover do not want to click on 8000 links separately to find out and repair them.

I also exported a report of the links to an excel spreadsheet, and those same links gave the message: "Cannot open the specified file".

Thank you,
Brett

This is a problem I have had with the hyperlink data type.

I find using ShellExec works a lot better.

If it were me I would create a text field and then convert all the hyperlinks to a text field. It would be very easy to loop through the records and use teh DIR() to test the path. You could still do this with  Hyperlink field. It just takes more effort to extract eh path path whcih you will need to do anyway to convert to a text field.

Okay I will investigate your suggestions in a few hours, as I will be unavailable until then.  Thank-you though!
I still have the question though of how to actually fix the hyperlinks, you gave good suggestions on finding which were good and bad, but how do I fix the 1000 or so bad links that I will have after I use those methods?
How to fix it would would depend on what is causing the link to be seen as bad.

That is what I am wondering though, the files are fine I can open them, and if I check the path of the hyperlink it is correct.
Sorry that was my bad I wasn't seeing the problem with the links.  There were multiple things wrong which is why I didn't see the pattern at first.  I guess that is why you have troubles in your first couple of weeks at a new employer :).  Thanks for the help HiTech and als, I will use your tools to find everything that is wrong with this db.

 Really?? Then why no Points?
I tried to give it to both of you, and I found his solution easier.  How do you give points to multiple people? As you can see this is a new account.
You can press "Request Attention" and write - how you like split points
