asked on

bios can't load when hard drive connected

I am a tech guy for a small company and a user called me and thinks she had a virus.  but said when she came in the morning, the system was stuck on the HP screen (where it asks to press 10, F2 etc) to enter bios etc.

When i disconnect the drive, I can enter the bios, but only when I connect it again, it doesn't allow me to get into bios or any other setting.  it does not event get as far as to show the windows splash screen.  Helps.

Disconnect the cdrom , drive and just connect the hard drive....reseat the ram..remove the battery and .wait for 15 minutes....connect the bios battery  and then boot to bios.

ok, tried it on a different working system and it halted the system. I can feel it spinning, but nothing.  I also connected to an external dock for sata drive and although it gave a drive letter, it remained grey and un clickable.  I guess it's dead.

Any suggestions.
You are right.
