Internet Explorer 9 opens, then immediately closes
After upgrading my Windows 7 x64 SP1 to IE 9, it started closing immediately after it was opened. It occurs on both the safe-mode and regular versions. The only version that will launch is x64.
So far, I have done the following:
Reinstalled
Install both with Windows Update & Downloaded version
Downloading from different location than the default
Reset internet settings to defaults
Ran sfc /scannow with no reported errors
Toggled "Use software rendering"
Tried running in Windows Safe-Mode
Run as admin
Tried running under different user
Installed ALL Windows Updates
The 1st result I got when I googled the issue was one from Microsoft, and it stated to:
Run Internet Explorer troubleshooters
Close all programs.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Find and Fix Problems under System and Security.
Click View All on the task pane on the left.
Click Internet Explorer Performance.
Click Next in the dialogue box.
The troubleshooter will run and fix all identified issues automatically. Click Close.
However, there isn't anything listed there for IE fixes. I even checked other machines on my domain and they too do not have anything listed for IE. I checked the group policy and local policy to see if checking online for troubleshooting was disabled.

Choose Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) from the Start Menu -> Accessories -> System Tools; it is usually an add-on that causes problems like that. If the Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) works, then you can troubleshoot your normal IE connections by selecting Tools menu -> Manage Add-ons -> Enable or disable Add-ons.

That is what I meant by "IE Safe-Mode". Only the x64 version opens correctly.
This may seem like a stupid question, but try getting your system information, just in case you accidently installed the wrong windows version. Try internet explorer 32x instead. And if that doesn't work, would you by any chance be able to try a different browser? see if you get the same results

It is a Lenovo T410 i5 Windows 7 x64 with IE 9 x64 installed.
When you install IE x64 the default program to run when you click IE is the x86 version. As I previously stated, the only version that opens and stays open on the system is the x64 version. Safe-mode, and x86 both close immediately after launch.
I installed Firefox weeks ago. For some reason, when you launch it, it takes about 20 minutes to finally load a webpage...

Create a new user account...restart the computer and login under the new account and check how it works.
Chances are user account is corrupted.
Try it.

Also would recommend clean boot if new user account does not work.
Clean boot process
Start-type - msconfig- click on startup tab- click disable all...then click services tab- put a check on hide all microsoft services ...and then click disable all....click ok and then restart the computer in normal mode.
If everything works fine in clean boot then enable five startup items and services at a time to find the faulty software.

New admin user, and clean boot did not resolve the issue.
Would recommend doing system restore...you will get your ie8 back....after that manually install internet explorer 9.
Try it

"you will not loose any programs or data"
You shouldnt lose anything, but please make sure you have backups of critical data..... It doesnt always leave everything intact.....

Repair install worked. However, I wish I knew what was the issue.
