Greetings experts!
I'm still learning as an admin, but I have successfully configured several other ASA5505 and 5510s to create a VPN between six different sites with Comcast static IPs. So I thought I was starting to get a handle on how this stuff works.
I've got an ASA5505 that was giving me some grief previously as well. I've recently reset it to factory defaults, and made sure that HTTP was enabled. I can connect just fine through the console cable, but my laptop doesn't have a serial port so I usually configure everything through the ASDM.
I assigned a new inside interface IP and opened all addresses on the inside interface (temporary until things are up and running, at which point I change it to the appropriate site specific setting). I assigned a static to my laptop in the same subnet, and plugged my laptop into the ASA5505 on ethernet port 0 on the back of the ASA. Neither device is currently connected to the internet, and no outside IP address has been assigned to the ASA.
Whenever I try to connect to the IP of the ASA from my laptop, either via ping command, web browser, or ASDM, it times out or says destination host unreachable. I reset to factory default and tried setting my laptop's IP to 192.168.1.2 and try to connect to 192.168.1.1, but with the same result.
Can someone help me out here? I need some pretty basic language still, as I'm nowhere near cert ready on this hardware.
Are java and javascript enabled?
