How do I read the content of a PDF file

How do I read the content of a PDF file?

I receive more than 100 PDF files daily and I need to read the content of these PDFfiles in order to identify some references. The references obtained from PDF files, are used to access important information stored in a SQL DB.

I have 3 possible environments in which I need to access the PDF content:
1.- On unix (solaris) using Progress Software
2.- On Windows using Progress Software for windows
3.- On windows using .NET (C# or VB)

Thank You
