Have you had a loose usb port that has a intermittent connection depending on how the usb device fit into the port?
When the device is wiggled it will make a connection. But not always.
The port seems physically stable in all other respects
I have a laptop port that does this, being used 10,000 times it was bound to fail.
Googling I find stuff about replacing the port through a long process of disassemble and un/soldering.
Is there a way of just using a pick to pry the contacts up, spray with WD40...or something less intensely invasive than the solder fix?
I don’t have a spare loose usb port to perform a autopsy on.

Really depends on what is loose. And you will only find that out by disassembling.
You might get away with using an extension cable plugged into the port. See if that works over a period of time. The drawback is that you've got a laptop with a stray cable dangling from it.
If that does work you might make it more permanent but using a touch of RTV to seal it in place.
