Why in Windows 7 does it take so much longer to MOVE a folder from one place to another on the same disk? With XP it was instant. I know how the file move works with the FAT and all.
This goes along with slow file copies, etc. What is going on?
If I move a folder with sub-folders, you can actually watch each of the sub-folders disappear as it is moved. WAYYY slow.

Run a chkdsk on the drive. It could be the early warning signs on a malfunctioning hard drive. Either way, replacing it wouldn't be a bad idea whether for performance or reliability.
Is it required to do BOTH the client and server sides? And the server side requires a REGEDIT, it seems safe but do you have experience with this change?
Thanks!

No direct experience, but if you perform the change as illustrated, there should be no problem. I would not consider this a major change, but if you are EVER nervous about making such a change, MAKE SURE you perform a FULL backup first. (I wouldn't hesitate to make the change if I thought it would resolve an issue).
You should just need to make the change on the server as from there, it should always ONLY negotiate the connection at SMB1 and the client's settings shouldn't matter.
