manually change a SID in either AD or on a 2008 member server

hi All,

I've had a nightmare on a new customers site.  For some reason when ever i join the domain AD stores the wrong SID.  I've tried everything i can think of (rejoining, resetting, syspreping etc..).  No matter what i do it always assigns the wrong SID.

I can see the two values using getsidid and adsiedit.  Is there a way i can manually change one of them?
